Gift of the Ordinary and Messy
…Where is God revealing God’s self? Certainly not in the “safe” world, but at the edge, at the bottom, among those people and places where we don’t want to find God, where we don’t look for God, where we don’t expect God…Maybe the reason that our knowledge of God is so limited is because we’ve been looking for God in places we consider nice and pretty. Instead, God chooses the ordinary and messy.
~Quote from Richard Rohr newsletter- December 20, 2021
I love finding ‘messy’ quotes, so imagine my delight when I read this quote from the Center for Action and Contemplation daily e-newsletter from Richard Rohr. As I think about the gifts I have wrapped, the menus I have planned and the ‘New Year’ cards we will send, I realize that I have been spent my time making this coming Christmas ‘nice and pretty’. Yet, Christmas comes no matter what. Whether I get everything done on my to do list or not. My desire for this coming week is that I recognize Jesus in the very midst of my ordinary and messy daily life.
As you make your final preparations for your family and your community Christmas celebration, may you discover the love of God, manifest through the coming of Jesus, in the very ordinary and messy!
Grace and peace,
Roberta
