And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk
humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8
Micah 6:6-8 is part of a larger conversation where God expresses frustration and disappointment in how people have turned from God’s ways. “What have I done to burden you,” God asks (6:3). The people respond “What else do you want from us,” pointing to all the sacrifices they willingly offer. But God doesn’t want empty sacrifices!
Instead, God wants us to live God’s way. And what’s that way? Micah 6:8 give us a direction, a guide for how God wants us to live. Do justly. Love kindness. Walk humbly with God.
