An escape room, also known as an escape game, puzzle room, or exit game, is a game in which a team of players discovers clues, solves puzzles, and accomplishes tasks in one or more rooms in order to accomplish a specific goal in a limited amount of time. The puzzles used in this Escape Room are all from the season of Lent, Holy Week, and Easter.
This in-person Escape room is designed to be used intergenerationally but especially for readers/ puzzlers and youth. Young readers may need adult assistance getting through the puzzles and making connections. It was not designed to be used virtually.
The escape room should take approximately one hour for a small mix of people working together. If there is a large group, we recommend splitting into smaller groups and running the Escape rooms in different spaces.
This Escape Room could be used as an “Extra” addition to your regularly scheduled Messy Church. You could invite your Messy folk to bring their friends and family to an extra Messy Church Event. People will work in small teams or family units to solve the puzzles and attempt to be the first group to find the key to open the door/suitcase/ or whatever you choose. The fun is in the process of solving the puzzles.
You could also use this as your main timed activity for your regularly scheduled Messy Church but there is not a celebration experience included with this packet. This packet includes all of the puzzles that you will need to proceed with your own Lenten Escape Room.
