The moment of Jesus’ baptism, when a dove descends and a voice calls Jesus a beloved son, marks the beginning of his earthly ministry of teaching, healing and sharing God’s love to all. As we explore Jesus’ baptism, we are reminded that as followers of Jesus Christ, baptism is not so much about who we are but who God is. God claims all of us as beloved children. We receive and accept the  unconditional love of God through Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

This extended session includes two options for Messy Churches. The first optional activity suggestions and full celebration script is for Messy Churches that are ready to baptize an individual at their Messy Church. The second option is for Messy Churches that want to introduce the symbols of baptism for their messy folk through the story of Jesus’ baptism in the gospel of Mark.
