What’s On My Desk…March 2025

We are excited to start a new monthly blog! Johannah Myers, the Program Director of Messy Church USA, will be sharing ‘What’s on her Desk!” Thanks Johannah!

What’s on my desk this month?

By Dr. Johannah Myers

It’s hard to believe we’re halfway through Lent. Holy Week is almost upon us! I don’t know about you, but my desk is a mess (as usual!) with Lent and Easter resources plus odds and ends as I begin to think about summer planning and beyond.

Here are a few things on my desk right now

Make Room: A Child’s Guide to Lent and Easter by Laura Alary and the corresponding book for younger children, Make Space for Jesus: Learning about Lent and Easter.

My church provided copies of Make Room and/or Make Space for families this Lent with some simple suggestions about how to use the book at home.

The Peace Table: A Storybook Bible published by Herald Press and Brethren Press.

This story Bible came out in 2023, and it’s become my go-to for Sunday School, Messy Church, and more. I love the diverse pictures as well as the suggested “Wonder and Share” ideas, prayers, and peace practices.

The Gifts They Bring: How Children in the Gospels can Shape Inclusive Ministry by Amy Lindeman Allen. In between planning for Lent, Holy Week, and all the other things, I’ve been working my way through this book and pondering the role of children in my local church and beyond.

What I’m Looking Forward to…

Imagining All Generations: A Renewed Vision for an Intergenerational Church edited by Wilson McCoy, to be released June 3, 2025

  • Imagining All Generations is a collection of perspectives about intergenerational church from around the world and is a follow-up to the 2023 Intergenerate Conference in Nashville. The books published from Intergenerate conferences (Intergenerate, Engage All Generations, All Ages Becoming) have been excellent resources and I’m sure this one will be no exception!
