Wonder…
The first time I saw the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights), I was a young child traveling with my parents to the far north in Canada. I still remember being filled with wonder as we stood outside in the cold night air and viewed beautiful lights skim across the sky. I was reminded of that experience this past week as I saw pictures taken by professional, amateur and friends from Washington to Alaska share their pictures of a fantastic night of viewing an especially vibrant show.
Wondering is something that I used to do often but have not used it as a spiritual practice for quite some time. So, this year, I chose the word Wonder to by word of intention. I have reminders in my office, my morning journal, and my bathroom mirror to ‘wonder’. For me, wondering takes me out of my usual pattern of analyzing and focusing on my tasks and invites me to pause and be curious. I read recently that “when you open to wonder, opportunities abound”.
Wild…Wilderness
Lent brings many opportunities to wonder. I wonder what it was like to wander around the wilderness? I encourage you to check out the Wild and Wilderness Messy Adventure written by Aaron Jenkyn, who lives in New Hampshire. It is featured throughout Lent with Messy Church UK/ Bible Reading Fellowship. It is a downloadable recourse that explores different ways to enter into the wilderness to encounter God and explore the ways in which a time of wilderness helps us cultivate the wildness within. Be sure to check it out!
